Second Time Around By Joanne From the 13 who won in the May 2001 Senatorial race, 6 of them were re-electionists. These were Juan Flavier, Sergio Osmena III, Franklin Drilon, Ramon Magsaysay, Edgardo Angara and Gringo Honasan. Judging form the youth clamor against "Trapos" earlier this year, one can consider these 6 lucky for being chosen once again to be part of the Senate especially since a lot of Filipinos have been looking forward to fresh faces in the political arena since People Power 3. When Senate 2001 had a chance to ask some of these people regarding being elected once more, most of them just commented that they will continue the projects that they have begun during their previous term. Most are looking forward to being able to experience to work with the new members of the Senate, although they admittedly said that the fact that they are divided in 2 oppostion parties can be considered as a set-back. Angara states that it takes a certain amount of skill to be able to remain objective yet efficient at the same time. Generally, it's just back to work for these 6. As for the newcomers, all they can say is: Good Luck! |
