Solita Monsod's Platform Education is the lifeline for families to pull themselves out of poverty. But many children never get a fair cahnce at a good education. Poverty makes them drop out of school before reaching grade 6. Even those who stay in school are not given the means to learn. Pupils cannot learn if they cannot get to school. Students cannot learn without proper nutrition and without books and if teachers are poorly trained and motivated. I propose: -A book for every child, for every subjject -Mandated feeding programs in public scchools -Transport allowances for school childrren -College scholarships for talented chilldren of poor families -Equipment and training in the newest ttechnology for teachers -Increased autonomy and accountability for principals
Corruption takes from the poor and gives to the rich. Public money meant for education, health care, and housing for the poor ends up in the pockets of corrupt officials and private persons who evade taxes. I shall: -Tighten laws on tax evasion and unexpllained wealth -Stramline budgets for spending on sociial priorities -Help clean up agencies providing healtth, education and housing -Give a greater role for NGOs, POs and local governments -Raise morale among public servants thrrough decent pay and strict compliance with rules. |
