Make A Difference With Your Vote by Joanne In two weeks, the Filipino people will once again vote for 13 of the 36 candidates that are running this year for senator. Now, more than ever, the Filipinos, especially the youth, are very much interested with the campaigns. They realized that their future lies to whoever will govern them for the next six years. The mistakes of the past administration have made them realized the importance of voting for the best leaders of our country. I mean, who can forget about the phenomenal People Power 2 that ousted ex-president Joseph Estrada. Once again, the people have proven that what they think matters. Surveys from the past few weeks tell us that the leading candidates in the elections are still the popular ones. On the top of the list is Noli de Castro, followed by Flavier, and the list goes on. Notice that none of the less popular canidates made it to the top 13. Even Miriam, who is known to be despised by many, has made it to the top 13. This clearly states not all people are informed well about the other candidates. Would the people rather choose popularity and political experience than the candidate's best intentions? This is a call to the people to take their time out to know more about the candidates. These small efforts for the elections, if done by many, can make a difference and even become life changing for many Filipinos. Voters should read newspapers, watch news, listen to the radio, and surf through the internet to find out more about the candidates. Let us not settle for recycled ones who have proven their capabilities, or the lack of it, during their previous term. Let us not be afraid to vote differently this time. |
