Arroyo: My Main Man
By Joanne

Ok, here's an editorial that will strictly talk about Arroyo. Yup, i know I shouldn't be unfair, devoting my time writing about this one candidate, when I should be writing about all of them. But I can't help it. I truly emulate this man.

I'll admit, the only time that i really noticed him was during the period of Erap's Impeachment Trial. I was wondering, ever since, if this guy had plans of running for Senate even before the Impeachment. Or did his need to serve the public came only after he noticed the mistakes of the Erap administration. Fine, you're probably thinking, why didn't I just set-up an interview with him, that sort of stuff, if I really wanted to know. Well, believe me honey, I tried to get an interview with him. But his representatives said he just won't be able to fit us in his schedule. And, his office is not replying to any of the e-mails that I've sent him.

Anyway, back to why I adore him so much. Did any of you guys know that during Marcos' time, he was the first lawyer to challenge before the Supreme Court the constitutionality of Proclamation 1081 imposing martial law? What great guts huh? Aside from this, he also questioned before the Supreme Court along with others: 1) the ratification of the Marcos-dictated 1973 Constitution; 2) amendment Six that empowered President Marcos to exercise law-making powers alongside the Batasan Pambansa; 3) the power of military tribunals to try civilians. More than this, he was incarcerated, thrown into bartolina and held incommunicado and in solitary in a military stockade. Sob! Poor guy! Not only that, he was gassed, injured and hospitalized during protest rallies. What this guy fights for is no joke. Truly, a man of principle and action.

I keep on thinking, is this guy too good to be true? I sure hope not. Our country needs to have more of men like him. Someone simple but ambitious. A leader who is strong enough to make his dreams come true. Did you notice that when he is interviewed by talk shows, he seem to really think about his answers? He is anything but stupid. He gave such well-thought answers back when the media would interview him about the Impeachment. True, he did lose his temper on National TV. But, hey, nobody's perfect!

Obviously, I'll be voting for him on Monday. I am not trying to convince you guys to vote for him, if that's what you're thinking. Your decision is purely your decision. I just want to share my opinion to the surfers out there. I am, after all, entitled to freedom of speech and expression. So, if Mr. Joker happens to read this humble article of mine, I just want to say to him: You're the man. :)
